PROCESS ENGINEER – COMBUSTION & FURNACE
Position Overview
We are seeking a Downstream Process Engineer with experience in Combustion and Fired
Equipment to join Ras Tanura Refinery organization under the Downstream Global
Manufacturing to support and oversee the performances of Saudi Aramco Global
Manufacturing assets.
Your primary role will be to provide process engineering and operations expertise to monitor,
optimize, and drive performance improvement programs for our refineries Fired Equipment,
including remote and field technical advisory support, benchmarking, and technology
knowledge management and exchange. You will be expected to drive our performance
improvement programs which enhance process safety, optimize manufacturing cost, and
increase plant reliability.
Key Responsibilities
As the successful candidate you will be required to perform the following:
• Review and monitor the performance of existing Fired Equipment through KPI’s
representing the optimum operability, profitability, reliability, and process safety. Ensure
issuing detailed reports to recommend changes to optimize unit operation.
• Conduct simple and complex analyses related to the design, specification, and
applications engineering tasks associated with fired equipment.
• Evaluate, select, specify, and engineer fired equipment packages suitable for design
needs for reliable, cost-effective, and efficient operation.
• Select and implement appropriate designs for fired equipment.
• Perform field troubleshooting & technical assessment for Fired Equipment, including
burners & refractory deficiencies.
• Provide technical support to maintenance support organizations.
• Calculate remaining life of heater tubes and provide safe and optimized tube
replacement schedule.
• Conduct technical assessment and inspection for refractory installation & repair
procedures.
• Perform technical analysis for burners’ operations & integrity compliance.
• Perform investigations of fired equipment failures to identify root cause(s) and to
prevent reoccurrence of such failures.
• Developing repair procedures required for Fired Equipment.
• Review detailed drawings and material specification as requested.
• Support Operations during turnaround and unplanned Shutdowns / Startups by
understanding the unit operating conditions and transient effects to recommend
operations improvements.
• Manage long and short-term projects by proposing major projects to improve safety,
reliability and profitability. Prepare design request, budget justifications and detailed
implementation plans for economically justifiable projects. Also, develop detailed
engineering process design packages for in-house projects and follow up on
implementation.
• Provide on-demand remote and/or field technical advisory support to the
Manufacturing facilities on matters concerning the operation of Fired Equipment, which
may include but not limited to troubleshooting, start-up and shutdown activities, capacity
test runs and technology pilot testing. Issue service report for every support activity
provided highlighting the facilities need, actions taken, results, and lessons learned.
• Ensure environmental and safety awareness effectiveness by working closely with
the facility Safety and Environment management to improve safety and achieve highest
environmental standards.
Minimum Requirements
▪ You must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Metallurgical Engineering, or a
related field. An advanced degree is preferred.
▪ You must have a minimum of 15 years of total experience with at least 10 years’
experience in handling Fired Equipment as a specialty.
▪ You must have experience in Hydrocarbon Facilities (preferably Refinery).
▪ Exposure to different technology licensors is a plus.
▪ A broad set of skills and knowledge encompassing fired heaters, flares, incinerators,
boilers, SCRs, and similar systems including auxiliaries, related to Refining, NGL,
and petrochemical industries.
▪ Deep code knowledge of ASME Section VIII Divisions 1 & 2, ASME Section I, API-
530, API-535, API-537, API-560, API-579, API-936, NFPA standards, etc. applicable
to fired equipment.
▪ Significant experience in inspection and failure analysis of fired equipment.
▪ Knowledge of basic and advanced NDE techniques related to fired equipment.
▪ Deep understanding of remaining life calculations of heater tubes.
▪ Understanding of Refractory design and repair.
▪ Understanding of burners design, operation and repair.
