Job Description
Senior Process Engineer – Engineering
The Senior Process Engineer is responsible for reviewing, validating, and optimizing all Process Engineering documentation and deliverables. This role ensures strict adherence to client specifications, industry codes, and international standards (API, ASME, ISO, etc.), supporting a smooth transition from Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) to detailed construction engineering. A key focus is guaranteeing the functionality, safety, and operability of process systems in complex Oil & Gas environments.
Key Responsibilities
I. Technical Leadership and Deliverable Validation
- Critical Document Review: Lead the review and approval of key Process Engineering deliverables for detailed design, including:
- Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
- Data sheets for static and rotating equipment, control valves, and pressure safety valves (PSV/PRV).
- Depressurization and relief system analyses (Blowdown/Flare System Design).
- Specifications for utility and chemical systems (e.g., Fuel Gas, Cooling Water).
- Optimization and Design Review: Participate in HAZOP, SIL/LOPA, and formal Design Reviews to identify and mitigate operational and safety risks.
- Process Calculations: Execute and/or validate complex engineering calculations, including heat & material balances, line sizing, vessel and heat-exchanger sizing, and thermodynamic simulations.
- Change Management: Manage and document process-related scope changes through the MOC (Management of Change) process during detailed engineering.
II. Collaboration and Interface
- Multidisciplinary Coordination: Work closely with Piping, Instrumentation, Electrical, and Civil teams to ensure safe, efficient, and feasible system layouts and interconnections.
- Procurement Support: Provide technical input during the evaluation of proposals for critical equipment.
- Client/Regulatory Interaction: Present and defend process engineering solutions to clients and regulatory bodies when required.
III. Standards and Quality
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all process designs comply with applicable national and international Oil & Gas standards (API RP, ASME B31.3, NRs, DNV/ABS).
- Standardization: Promote standardization of methods and documentation to enhance quality and efficiency across Process Engineering deliverables.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, or Mechanical/Petroleum Engineering with strong process experience.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years as a Process Engineer, with at least 5 years in Detailed Engineering for Oil & Gas facilities (FPSOs, refineries, terminals, petrochemical plants).
- Technical Expertise: Advanced proficiency in generating and interpreting P&IDs and PFDs, and solid knowledge of process safety systems (PSV sizing, flare/blowdown).
- Software Skills: Proficiency in simulation tools such as HYSYS, ASPEN Plus, or PRO/II.
- Language: Fluency in English and Portuguese.
- Nationalities welcome to apply: Brazilian
Preferred
- Active professional registration (equivalent to CREA).
- Familiarity with specifications of major Oil & Gas operators.
- Experience in FEED or Commissioning/Start-up phases.
Soft Skills
- Methodical, meticulous mindset with zero tolerance for safety and quality deviations.
- Strong negotiation skills to balance complex technical demands across disciplines and clients.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines in dynamic project environments typical of detailed engineering.
